Different characters\, “buddies”\, invite young children to play\, explore\, collaborate\, create\, and learn while improving the neighborhood. \nGrab a helmet and a safety vest to wear throughout the exhibition before you: \n\nOrganize and plan a house with Peter the Architect\nHelp Eva brighten up her bungalow inside and out\nBuild a doghouse for Winston the Bulldog\nHelp Pipa Longpipe finish renovating her home\nClimb and build with Billy the Brick Layer\nConstruct a chimney to keep the Walltons safe and warm\n\n“Building Buddies is more than just play—it’s hands-on problem-solving\, teamwork\, and creativity in action”\, says Sally Dreher\, Curator of Education. “Every paint stroke and block stack introduces kids to the core ideas of STEAM\, helping them see how science\, technology\, engineering\, art\, and math are all around them. DESCRIPTION:Event Date: December 5th\, 5:30 PM\nParade Route: Poyntz Avenue (from 3rd Street & Poyntz Avenue to City Park)\n*Please note that the 2025 parade will not go down Moro St. \n\n\nFor Parade Goers:\nWhere to Watch: \n\nThe best viewing spots are along Poyntz Avenue from 3rd Street all the way to City Park.\nArrive early to grab a prime spot and enjoy the festive atmosphere.\n\nWhat to Expect: \n\nEnjoy beautifully lit floats\, marching bands\, and more\, bringing holiday cheer to the heart of our neighborhood.\nThe parade starts at 5:30 PM\, but be sure to come early for parking and the best views.\n\nParking Information: \n\nFree parking is available at public lots and the Manhattan Town Center.\nBe aware of street closures along Poyntz Avenue\, which will begin prior to the parade. If you are parked on Poyntz at the start of the parade\, you will have to remain in place until the parade passes.\n\n\n\nFor Parade Participants:\nArrival & Staging: \n\nCheck-In/Staging: Staging beings at 3:00 PM — We will be lining up in the parking lot west of Dillard’s again. You will be emailed staging instructions prior to the day of. Volunteers will direct you to your assigned spot.\n\nParade Rules: \n\nGENERAL PARADE GUIDELINES:\n\nThe Spirit of the Holidays Lighted Parade with Downtown has a rich history of supporting the Flint Hills Bread Basket. This year\, in lieu of an entry fee\, a non perishable food contribution or a monetary donation is preferred. Donate here.\nALL ENTRIES MUST HAVE LIGHTS (this includes walking groups)\nCostumes are strongly encouraged for all participants. All participants should dress in warm clothes.\nNo entry may feature Santa. Santa makes a special appearance at the end of the parade.\nDistribution of candy and trinkets is encouraged. For safety\, please hand out near sidewalks\, do not throw!\nOnce the parade gets moving do not allow for gaps.\nAll entries are subject to approval by the parade committee.\nThe group contact person must have signed this application and all entrants must be familiar with these guidelines.\nAll awards will be determined by a panel. This year’s awards include:\n\nMayor’s Trophy/Best in Show: The winner must show originality and have a significant light display.\nBest Use of Lights: For the entry that uses lights in the most creative way to enhance their entry.\nSpirit of the Breadbasket: This award is given to the entry that best represents the idea of sharing food with those in need and uses the most food as part of their entry to best advantage.\nBest Youth Float: For the best entry by a group composed mainly of children.\nBest Walking Group: For the best individual or group traveling the parade route on foot.\nBest Bicycle Entry: Best individual or group on bicycles.\n\n\n\n\n\nParade Day Street Closures: \nThe following streets will be closed beginning at 2:00 PM: \n\n3rd and Leavenworth\n3rd and Humboldt\n4th and Humboldt\n\nThere will be NO PARKING beginning at 2:00 PM:  \n\nOn Humboldt between 3rd and 4th Streets – this is a tow zone\nIn the west Dillard’s lot – this is a tow zone\n\nJust prior to the start of the parade the following roads will be blocked to thru traffic: \n\nN. 3rd Street and Poyntz\nS. 3rd Street just north of the AJ’s parking lot\nN. 4th Street at the alley\nS. 4th street at the alley\nS. 5th Street at the alley\n6th Street at the alleys\nJuliette at the alleys\n\nParking will remain open on Poyntz Ave and no cars will be towed on Poyntz.
