SUMMARY:National Day of the Cowboy at FHDC
DESCRIPTION:Wrangle up the family and join the Flint Hills Discovery Center for National Day of the Cowboy\, an annual celebration of the national icon and the history and culture of the American West. This year’s event is on Saturday\, July 26 from 10 am to 2 pm. \nOutside\, catch a horse-drawn carriage ride (10:30 am to 1:30 pm) and brand a wood block. \nInside the Discovery Center\, take a western style photo “in jail”\, at the saloon doors\, or with our wooden bison calves. SUMMARY:Gallery Talk with Rae Stern
DESCRIPTION:Afterimage is a multidisciplinary body of work by artist Rae Stern that explores the layered relationship between landscape\, memory\, and belonging. Rooted in personal history and shaped by archival fragments\, the project investigates how places hold far more than meets the eye—and how they are experienced differently by those who know them through daily intimacy and those who encounter them from afar. \nJoin us on July 26 @ 4pm for a gallery walk and talk with artist Rae Stern celebrating the opening of her solo exhibition Afterimage\, exploring her practice while employing digital tools in the manipulation of multiple media including ceramics\, photography\, paper\, glass\, and textiles as she uncovers the social and cultural effects of technology. \nFree for Members and new museum guests with museum admission. \nBig Thanks to: \nKemper Family Foundations\, UMB Bank\, n.a.\, Trustee & \nJewish Art Fund of the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Kansas City \nfor supporting the Afterimage exhibition
