SUMMARY:Wonder Workshop Soul Food Dinner Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:The 2023 Wonder Workshop Soul Food Dinner Fundraiser is all about bringing the community together to eat some delicious soul food while working together to raise funds for the children and families who come to Wonder Workshop for learning through play. As importantly\, this serves as an opportunity for members of the community to join in keeping the memory of the hard work and dedication of our founder\, Mr. Richard Pitts\, alive.\nAs a non-profit organization that largely relies on grant funding to support our efforts to continue to promote education in the arts\, sciences\, and humanities through hands-on activities and exhibits\, the funds raised at our Soul Food Dinner Fundraiser will go a long way.\nTickets can be purchased using the Eventbrite link (https://www.eventbrite.com/…/wonder-workshop-soul-food…)\, and prices are: $20 for ages 17 and up; $10 for ages 6-16; $5 for ages 2-5; free for kids under 2. No family will be charged more than $60. (Please contact us at wonder@wonderworkshop.org if you’d like to purchase physical tickets.)\nEvery dollar raised goes toward the work it takes to make sure children and families inside and out of the Manhattan community have a place to go where they can grow a desire for lifelong learning\, recognize everyone’s cultural diversity\, and enhance their creative potential.\nTo find out how you can be a sponsor and more\, visit our site: https://www.wonderworkshop.org/\n*To-go boxes will be available upon request at the event*

SUMMARY:2023 Operation Green Light
DESCRIPTION:America’s counties have a long and proud history of serving our nation’s veterans\, a legacy that continues to this day as we work with our federal\, state and local partners to ensure that the former service members have access to the resources they need to thrive. \nOnce again\, this Veterans Day\, the National Association of Counties (NACo) and the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers (NACVSO) invite the nation’s 3\,069 counties\, parishes\, and boroughs to join Operation Green Light and show support for veterans by lighting our buildings green from November 6-12. By shining a green light\, county governments and our residents will let veterans know that they are seen\, appreciated and supported. \nCOUNTIES MATTER FOR VETERANS County Veteran Service Officers (CVSOs) in 29 states are responsible for successfully processing more than $52 billion in compensation\, pension\, health care and other benefits for veterans each year. Counties across the nation operate Veterans Treatment Courts\, through which we can connect justice-involved veterans with programs and benefits that can treat underlying mental health and substance abuse conditions. Counties support veterans’ access to stable housing\, employment and education and critical mental health services that treat trauma and prevent suicide.

SUMMARY:FHDC Great Plains: America's Lingering Wild
DESCRIPTION:Discover the beauty and majesty of America’s Great Plains in the work of award-winning photographer Michael Forsberg. Traveling 100\,000 miles over four years\, Forsberg crisscrossed the Plains from Canada to Mexico\, capturing the wildlife\, habitats\, and conservation challenges in the heart of the continent. \nOriginally a book project\, Forsberg set out to capture what some outside observers call “flyover country” in an attempt to bring attention to and build appreciation for this often-overlooked region. Inspiring\, informative\, and timely – the exhibit is a love letter to this endangered ecosystem. \nOn Friday\, November 3\, join Forsberg at the Discovery Center for a private tour with a VIP Gallery Walk and a public presentation during which he will share the story of the dedicated people working to keep the wild prairie alive. His presentation will reflect deeply on this human-landscape relationship in the tallgrass prairie of the Flint Hills of Kansas and across the prairie of North America. \nGreat Plains features:\n60 full color photographs highlighting the Southern Plains\, Northern Plains\, and Tallgrass Prairie regions\nInsights and behind-the-scenes information from Michael Forsberg\nMaps and diagrams of the Great Plains
